COUNTING DOWN TO CHRISTMAS 2017 AND THE FESTIVE FARMERS' MARKET

It's proving a busy time for Brigg shops in the run up to Christmas 2017 as people continue to stock up for the festive season ahead.
Many people this morning (Saturday) were queueing in the Post Office, on Wrawby Street, to send parcels packed with presents to friends and family living in other parts of the UK.
Affable counter staff  helped make up for the wait to be served at the back of Martin's shop.
At the Something Old Something New shop they were getting ready to make the Christmas draw when we passed by.
This is in aid of the dear doggies cared for at the Jerry Green charity in nearby Broughton.
However, even the spirit of goodwill to all men (and women) doesn't result in respite for shoppers who were still having to step aside as drivers insisted on taking their vehicles into the pedestrian area.
When will the authorities take firm action to deter this practice?
Surely this is long overdue!
Tonight it will be interesting to see how many people visit Brigg's many town centre bars.
With Christmas still nine days away, will a good number stay at home to conserve their cash?
Or will Saturday, December 16 herald the start of the busy period for our pubs?
Santa hats and festive outfits will, as usual, be donned by many bar staff.
Brigg Buttercross is not far short of celebrating its 200th Christmas as a landmark in the town centre.
Construction work started, we believe, in 1817 but some time elapsed before it opened.
We continue to hear favourable comments about this year's Christmas lights, provided by the Town Council.
They stretch from Bridge Street, through the town centre to East Park, near the Monument.
Next Saturday, December 23, will be a really busy day for Brigg businesses, with shoppers aplenty.
The monthly farmers' market will be held, together with the adjoining general market.
Be sure to visit the stalls to stock up on a wide range of Christmas products from the stalls and permanent outlets represented by the Brigg Town Business Partnership.
Further details about shopping on the final Saturday before Christmas to follow on Brigg Blog a little nearer the time.
