COUNTING DOWN TO THE BRIGG CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON 2017

Brigg Town Council is busy making arrangements for the best-attended public event of the year - the switch-on of the Christmas illuminations.
This year's showpiece will take place on Friday, December 1 in the town centre.

Brigg District Lions will be hosting their traditional Christmas Fair, with a wide range of stalls and various amusements for the children, and Brigg Town Business Partnership, representing local shops and other commercial outlets, will be providing various Christmas events.
At its latest monthly meeting, Brigg Town Council agreed a £170 grant to the Business Partnership to help with its festive season plans.
Whether there will be a stage erected in the Market Place this year remains unclear.

For many years the Town Council has paid for a temporary stage to be erected near the Angel building, on which characters from either the Grimsby or Scunthorpe civic pantomimes entertain the crowd, prior to the switch being activated to bring on the lights with a 5-4-3-2-1 countdown.
Brigg Town Council has explored an alternative for 2017, switching on the lights from the balcony on the front of the Angel - owned by North Lincolnshire Council.
However, there appear to be some issues relating to using the vantage point for this purpose.
Further information is expected to be made available during the October meeting of the Town Council.
The council's current contract for the erection and maintenance of the town centre's Christmas lights ends early next year.
However, only two "expressions of interest" have been shown by companies interested in fulfilling the contract from 2018 for three years.
They are understood to have come from the existing contractor and another described merely as "local."
