BRIGG WELCOMES MOTORCYCLISTS AND SCOOTER RIDERS

There was an interesting crossing of paths in Brigg on Sunday morning.
Near the Monument war memorial roundabout, a procession of motorcyclists were heading along the A1084 Bigby Road towards the level crossing, while  five scooter riders were going in the opposite direction.
We later saw scooters outside Wetherspoon's White Horse pub.
They were propped up a few yards from the China Garden takeaway - a building that was a favourite meeting place decades ago for two-wheel enthusiasts when K's Korner Cafe occupied the premises.
That was the era of Mods and Rockers.

Hugely popular Brigg Bike Night each July caters chiefly for motorcyclists but the fans of Vespas and Lambrettas are just as welcome and are often to be seen passing through town during the warmer months of the year.

I don't know what to call myself, Nige.
At the age of 16 ( as you could in those long, off days) I had a Lambretta 125..in the heyday of Mods and Rockers....some months later, I got a AJS (Ajay) 250.....I must have been a Mocker!
I couldn't afford the motorcyclist foulweather clothing....so I used to put a sheet of cardboard inside the front of my jacket and plastic bags over my woollen gloves...going across the Snake Pass in winter was a doddle....I felt like Steve McQueen in the Great Escape (in snow)..although,I did have to kip down in one of those deducted AA boxes at the top of the Snake overnight to shelter from a snowstorm.....

I did about remember the K's Corner Cafe....I first came to Brigg in 1981 and it was of the very few places available in the town to get a snack...it was very basic.
Within a few years, or less, it became China Garden...I use to go there quite often...the missus always wanted Lemon Chicken and my son's favourite was a banana fritter.
This was the time in the 1980's when one could get a great Sunday roast at the Wagon and Horses in Scawby Brook, or the Wishing Well at Worlaby...both modern and spacious pubs...but now gone.

Think you mean Horse and Cart, Ken, at Scawby Brook. Was very popular with young folk in the 70's.
