COULD BRIGG HELP SWIFTS WITH NESTING BOXES?

Brigg Blog has already suggested that there are far fewer swifts about town this year.
Yet a quick search on the web soon showed us that some councils, landlords and home-owners in the UK are helping by providing nesting boxes to make up for some of the sites lost for various reasons.
We often see references to assisting bats. So why not help swifts?
It used to be a real sign of summer to see and hear swooping and screeching swifts darting between homes in Brigg as they hunted on the wing for insects.
The swifts also provided a free early morning wake up service if you had a nest under your eaves.
During the 1960s and 1970s there was a large colony where we lived in the Central Square and East Parade district during the era of Brigg Urban District Council.
We were reminded of this just prior to last night's thunder storm when we glimpsed swifts over Yarborough Road.
Sadly, there were only two of them.
