133,000 REASONS WHY BRIGG IS JUST THE TICKET FOR SHOPPERS

FROM KIRSTY WESTFIELD, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL

Over 133,000 free parking tickets have been issued in Brigg car parks on Old Courts Road and The Angel, off Elwes Street, since March this year (March to 10 July 2017) – nearly 40,000 more than the same time last year.
In May 2014, the council introduced two hours free parking on weekdays in Brigg. Following the success of this scheme, free parking all day on Saturdays was introduced in June 2014 and then all day on Sundays in November 2015.
Brigg is a bustling market town that is home to a whole range of independent and national retailers.
Coun Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We invested in free parking across North Lincolnshire to encourage more people to visit our town centres. This shows our commitment to improving the economy of North Lincolnshire and making our town centre’s thriving places that people want to visit.
“Since the introduction of the free parking schemes we have seen an increase in the number of visitors to Brigg. It has been a positive boost for local retailers and traders. You only have to walk down the high street to see how busy it is.
“We are one of the only councils in the country offering two hours in the week and all day Saturday and Sunday free parking. The weekend is the busiest time, so this allows visitors to stay for as long as they like without having to worry about the cost of parking.
“This all forms part of our wider regeneration plans not only for Brigg but the whole of North Lincolnshire. Brigg has a huge amount of potential and we are going to focus on this to make further improvements.
“Our aim is to put North Lincolnshire on the map as a place to live, work, visit and invest.”

☆ N.F. ADDS: The numbers revealed by  council spokeswoman Kirsty speak for themselves. We'd just like to add that improved signage at, and near, the car parks would be welcome. You still see first time or occasional visitors to Brigg who get out of their cars and are unsure about ticketing. Some you speak to can't believe the concession! They think that if it's a council car park they will ALWAYS have to feed the meter.

'133,000' is somewhat misleading, Nige....and NYC are doing themselves an injustice.
133,000 may be official representation of the number of cars freely using NYC 's Carl arms in Brigg.....but it's all day free-parking at weekend's and no ticket is require......therefore, may I suggest that if we divide 133,000 by 5 = 26,500 and add this (representing Saturdays) to 133000 = about 160,000....not including Sundies as these days were already free....
