You can call in at Brigg Tourist Information Centre and book a FREE seat on one of the Saturday train trips around Scunthorpe steelworks.
That's right, you do not have to buy a ticket.
Just give your name and phone number to staff at the Buttercross and turn up on the appointed day to board the train.
You can park your car in the British Steel visitor car park, which is only a few dozen yards from the special platform, near Brigg Road, used for the Saturday afternoon excursions.
We went on the first of the 2017 season but there are others coming up on June 3 and 10 and then through to late September.
Our two-coach train was hauled by a steam loco which took us over 15 miles of track.
We skirted the ironworks and passed the steelmaking plant and the mill that rolls rails.
There was a stop at the loco depot so we could take a look round but for obvious reasons we did not leave our carriage while out on the plant.
An excellent afternoon tour. We left a tenner apiece as a donation after leaving the train.
These tours are run by volunteers from the
Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society. Ours lasted 2 hrs 30 mins.
You need to be on the platform by 1.15pm for a 1.30pm departure.

If you do have a car available, take the No 4 Hornsby bus from Brigg. You then face a walk of a few hundred yards to the platform off Brigg Road, close to the main steelworks offices.
We hadn't been round the steelworks since 1979.
So we appreciated the expert commentary given to passengers aboard the train.
