NEW YEAR 2017 STARTS WITH A BANG IN BRIGG

Fireworks lit up the sky over Brigg for a lengthy period in the early hours today to mark the New Year, as townsfolk welcomed the arrival of 2017.
The noise of rockets being let off could be heard in most areas of Brigg.
A good deal of cash had clearly been expended on the different displays - some of which were particularly spectacular.
Hopefully, not too many family pets were disturbed by it all.
It proved to be a generally good night for Brigg pubs, in terms of trade.
There was live music at the White Hart, on Bridge Street, and also the Britannia Inn, on Wrawby Street.
At the Yarborough Hunt, on Bridge Street, one of the new huts in the beer garden was occupied by a group of young people - the first time we'd seen one of these new additions in use.
The Dying Gladiator, on Bigby Street, was packed late on, with customers enjoying the disco music.
On the downside, this morning we noticed a fast food box shoved in a hedge along St Helen's Road and others  discarded on the pavement by people who must have walked past completely empty litter bins at South Park, near the Tintab shelter.
