FROM LEE FIELDEN, HETT CUP COMMITTEE MEMBER
Following the closing fixture in the 1st round of this season's Hett Cup, here is the 2nd round draw:
AFC Brigg v Hibaldstow
Scotter United v Limestone Rangers
Broughton WMC v Barnetby United
Brigg Town U18s v Brigg Town Res
The 1st round results were:
Scotter United 3-0 Briggesians
Broughton WMC 1-0 Barnetby United Reserves
Barnetby United 3-1 Jolly Miller
Limestone Rangers 3-2 AFC Brigg.
Three sides received byes, these being Brigg Town Reserves and Brigg Town Under 18s and Hibaldstow.
As Wrawby Rovers had dropped out, a wild card team was drawn from the losing 1st round sides and Paddy Ellis's AFC Brigg were reinstated to the cup.
The money raised from previous Hett Cups has now seen the installation of a defibrillator on the end of the Hawthorns clubhouse facing the newly developed recreational facilities on the playing fields.
NF ADDS: Local footballers first competed for the Hett Cup (pictured above) more than 100 years ago. The historic trophy was held in store for a long period but reappeared a few season ago, to be competed for by local teams playing matches at Brigg Town FC's Hawthorns ground.

103 years ago, Nige old lad....the Hett Cup was first played for in 1913.
Brigg won against St Lawrence's, Frodingham.....but it is questionable whether the referee was biased.....two St L's players were attacked and kiicked by the spectators and St L's captain couldn't play down the wings as the crowd kept invading the pitch every time the opposition played the ball!!
One interesting rule change introduced in the 1912/13 season was the banning the goalkeeper handling the ball outside the penalty area.....the immediate effect of this rule was to allow more goals to be scored.....
but the game was still plagued by the offside rule..'a player was considered offside once he passed the 3rd to last man of the opposition'....
