DISPOSE OF CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR WASTE CORRECTLY, COUNCIL REMINDS BRIGG AREA RESIDENTS

FROM KIRSTY WESTFIELD, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL

With Christmas just around the corner, North Lincolnshire Council is reminding residents and businesses across the area that they all have a responsibility to dispose of their waste correctly and ensure that waste holders are authorised to their take waste.
During the festive season more waste is created, so it is important people and businesses are aware of their responsibilities.
All households and businesses have a duty of care regarding the storage and disposal of waste. If you let an unlicensed waste carrier take away your rubbish, you are breaking the law and may be liable to a fine and even a criminal record.
This reminder comes after the council issued five fines in the last month for littering and small scale fly-tipping.
Four Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) have been issued recently for littering. They were given for dumping a black bag of waste on Dale Street, Teale Street, Elizabeth Street and Parkinson Avenue in Scunthorpe. All offenders admitted to the crime and were issued with a FPN.
The FPN for littering is £80 or £50 if paid within 10 days of being issued.
One FPN has been given for small scale fly-tipping. The offender dumped five black bags of household waste in the tenfoot to the rear of Dale Street in Scunthorpe. They admitted the offence and were issued with a FPN.
The FPN for small scale fly-tipping is £150 or £120 if paid within 10 days of issue.
If you witness anyone littering or fly-tipping in North Lincolnshire, please report this as soon as possible. You can do this online at www.northlincs.gov.uk or by calling 01724 297000.
Coun Richard Hannigan, Cabinet Nember for Governance and Transformation, said: “With parties, and family and friends visiting over the Christmas period we all accumulate more waste and recycling than normal. It is very important that this waste is disposed of in the right way. Don’t ruin your Christmas by getting a fine for littering or fly-tipping.
“In the past month we have been cracking down on offenders for littering and fly-tipping in North Lincolnshire. I would like this to be a warning to other residents that fines will be issued.
“It is unacceptable for the small minority to think they can get away with littering and fly-tipping. I would urge everyone to make sure they understand their duty of care and make sure they dispose of their waste correctly.
“If you have extra waste and recycling, this can be taken to your local household recycling centre. An extra general waste collection day will also be provided over the Christmas period. To find out where your nearest recycling centre is, visit www.northlincs.gov.uk
