But we can now reveal that rugby has arrived at Sir John Nelthorpe School, where two sets of posts have been installed on the sports field, the uprights being protected by padding near their base to stop any fast-moving players being injured.

The story about William Webb Ellis, a pupil at Rugby School running with the ball...thus, the game of rugby being born...is a myth.
B4 the FA rules were written (and revised), there were no standard rules for playing football.
Public schools and Oxbridge colleges each had their own set of rules. At Cambridge, for example, the if one college was playing another, the home team pinned the their Rules on a tree prior to the game.
And in most games, running holding the ball was allowed...the basic aim was to get the ball in the opponent's goal by any accepted method. There was no goalkeeper..and don't even in the early FA rules a goalkeeper was not a recognised position.
Consequently, both football and rugby evolved from the same game...the rugby's type of football was promoted by public schools, while the FA devised the rules for Association Football.
Therefore, long b4 Billy Webb Ellis, guys were charging about and running with the ball....
