The old school on Glebe Road was shut IN 2007, demolished and an estate of new homes built on the site (see top right of the picture above).
However, no-one has got round to removing the two road signs seen here, warning drivers on Glebe Road that they are approaching a school.
Brigg Blog drew attention to this oversight a few weeks ago when we noticed that North Lincolnshire Council was considering its response to a government initiative to remove the clutter of unwanted street signs across the UK.
Since our post there has been no sign of any action to remove these surplus signs so we thought we'd take some pictures, in the hope that seeing the evidence might assist the council.
It is the highway authority, the local education authority and also granted planning permission for homes to be built on the old school site in Glebe Road.
These signs are worth a a few quid as scrap metal, probably less than the staffing cost of removing them. However, is that really the point?
Early next year will mark 10 years since the school vacated the old site on Glebe Road, leaving the road signs as a lasting reminder of a seat of learning which served the town so well from 1929. But it's a sign of the times that they now need to come down!
TIME FRAME
Back in April 2006 a council report was drawn up "to declare the Glebe Road site surplus to requirements."
It also requested the Head of Property and Leisure Services to look at the future of the site "with the aim of development to gain a capital receipt."
That report 10 years ago said: "Work has started on building the new Brigg Primary School on Atherton Way. We will vacate Glebe Road school in January 2007, when the new school is finished."
