BRIGG MIDWEEK GEOLOGY GROUP UNVEILS AUTUMN PROGRAMME

FROM PAUL HILDRETH, BRIGG MIDWEEK GEOLOGY GROUP

The indoor meetings will, thanks to Malcolm's continuing hospitality, be held at 1-3 Bigby Street, Brigg, above the premises occupied by The Bank hairdressers.

Thursday 25th August :  Outdoor Meeting at Ulceby Vale Quarry - meet in Brigg Car Park at 7.15pm or at the quarry entrance gate at 7.45pm.  Topic: Marker bands of the Chalk.
Thursday 22nd September: Workshop – indoor meeting - using simple techniques to identify minerals.
Thursday 27th October: “Plate Tectonics” – indoor meeting – an illustrated talk on the now widely accepted theory of plate movement and the forces that drive it.
Thursday 24th November: Workshop – indoor meeting – how to describe and begin to identify rocks.
Another date for your diary is the now annually-held Scarborough Fossil Festival.  This is held on the lawn areas in front of and to the side of the Rotunda Museum below Spa Bridge on South Bay.  There is a convenient (and not too expensive) underground car park close by.  The festival runs from Friday 16th September to Sunday 18th September.

N.F. ADDS: Thanks to our former Brigg Town Cricket Club batting colleague for that interesting information. We can remember studying Plate Tectonics while at Brigg Grammar School in the early 1970s.  If you want to find out more about the group, email panda_hildreth@hotmail.com
