AROUND THE BRIGG PUBS

It proved to be an interesting Saturday evening on the Brigg pub front, despite the fact that no plans were in place for anything other than a few quiet pints in a quiet corner.
Our original aim was to go straight from home to the Yarborough Hunt.
However, as we walked past the front door of the Britannia Inn, on Wrawby Street, we noticed an 'under new management' board outside and ventured inside in the hope of meeting mine hosts.
After a pleasant chat and a pint of real ale we set off again for the Yarborough, only to be engaged in conversation by an old friend who was sitting on a public seat in the Market Place, outside the Woolpack.
The recently appointed  landlord of the 'Woolie' - Mike Williams, pictured above - spotted the man from the media and came over to introduce himself.
We reached the Yarborough bang on 9pm - the time set to meet up with the usual Saturday night crew, though it had taken us almost an hour to cover a few hundred yards from one end of the town centre to the other.
Returning back over the County Bridge later, we popped into the Woolpack to chat to the licensee, having been  pressed for time earlier.
We picked up much interesting information about plans for this historic hostelry and will post it, with pictures, at a later date.
Saturday's last port of call proved to be the Dying Gladiator.
See Nick Cole's Bar Fly column in this week's Scunthorpe Telegraph (out on Thursday) for more news from the Brigg pubs, including the Woolpack and the Britannia.
