SWEET MEMORIES OF BRIGG

A view of business premises in Bridge Street, Brigg, during the 1970s - picture on Nigel Fisher's Brigg Blog

Talk to people about sweet shops in Brigg and they might well mention Natalie Sankey's current business on Wrawby Street or Arthur "Goodie" Binns' town centre emporium which operated some decades ago on the other side of the road.
However, the above picture was taken on Bridge Street - we think in the 1970s - and features what was known as Miss White's Shop (on the right) where sweets were very much the order of the day, rogether with ciggies and ice cream.
This picture was  taken after 1967. For that's when the Yarborough Hunt (left) closed - and the ale house's hanging sign had been removed by the time the unknown photographer took this view, although the fitting for the sign remains in situ.
Go into the reopened and refurbished Yarborough Hunt today, turn right once through the entrance and in front of you is an area depicted by the sign "Ron's Shop." The shop, when it was still a shop, can be seen on our picture immediately to the right of the former ale house.
The Yarborough Hunt has also been extended to the left.
