BRIGG AREA FIRM GIVES PRIZE SUPPORT

Stable staff from Jonjo O’Neill’s training yard are short-priced favourites to land a prize of £1,000 for having the ‘best turned out’ racehorses at Market Rasen Racecourse this year.
The prize comes courtesy of Brigg area firm Pipers Crisps and the racecourse itself – and will be presented during Betfred Summer Plate & Lincs FM Ladies’ Day on Saturday, 16th July, one of the most popular fixtures of the year.
The racehorse training yard which has been given the largest number of ‘best turned out’ awards during fixtures between January and July will also receive a consignment of crisps from the company founded in the county 12 years ago by three farmers.
The current ‘best turned out’ scoreboard for training yards is: Jonjo O’Neill, 8 awards; Tim Vaughan and Donald McCain, 5 each; Mike Sowersby and Fergal O’Brien, 4 each.
Alex Albone, Brand Owner at Pipers Crisps, said: “Stable staff are the unsung heroes and heroines of the sport of horseracing and we are delighted to play our part in rewarding them for their efforts in looking after their horses and making racing days at Market Rasen Racecourse such a success.”
George McGrath, the Chief Executive of National Association of Stable Staff, said: “We welcome the initiative shown by Market Rasen Racecourse and Pipers Crisps in recognising the hard work the racing staff put into getting their horses looking their best.
“Not only do the staff work hard to get the horses looking great, they also make a great effort to make themselves look smart, not an easy task when you consider the nature of the work.
“Hopefully this will encourage other racecourses to follow the wonderful example shown by Market Rasen which is punching above its weight in terms of looking after the racing staff.”
The racecourse opens on Saturday at 11.45am, two hours before the first scheduled race. Tickets are from just £9 in advance which can be purchased at http://marketrasen.thejockeyclub.co.uk or through the ticket line on 0344 579 3009. Accompanied children aged under 18 are admitted free of charge.
Market Rasen Racecourse is staging 22 jump racing meetings in 2016 and is a leading conference and events centre in the East Midlands.  More information is available at www.marketrasenraces.co.uk
