FULL TRAIN LEAVES BRIGG FOR CLEETHORPES ARMED FORCES DAY

A FOUR CARRIAGE train left Brigg railway station earlier this morning bound for Cleethorpes. And it was FULL of passengers.
The big draw is Armed Forces Day in the resort, where a host of events will be going on.
Our thanks go to rail campaigner Paul Johnson for the update.
It would be good if, in future, if the usual two-car trains calling at Brigg on Saturdays came packed with people getting off to spend the day in our town.
But today's very high passenger total will certainly go down well with train company bosses and boost the annual  "user stats" considerably.
Longer trains have been provided today - not just on the Brigg line - to meet demand from people heading for Cleethorpes.
Great to see some flexibility being shown.
Contrast this with a Saturday in the early 1980s when a Grimsby Town FC supporters' FA Cup-tie charter train came through Brigg, in the days of British Rail.
They wouldn't stop the train in Brigg so some of us had to drive to Cleethorpes to board it!
TODAY'S FIGURES (courtesy of Paul): 0803 Sheffield Cleethorpes via Brigg. Passengers getting on - Worksop 32, Retford 21, Gainsborough Central 23, Kirton in Lindsey 17, Brigg 21.
