ALDI CONSULTS PUBLIC ABOUT NEW STORE IN BRIGG

Brigg people had the opportunity to learn more about the Aldi store planned for Bridge Street during a public consultation held by the major retailer in the Angel Suite yesterday, between 2pm and 5pm.
Brigg Blog donned its shopper's hat and paid a visit, viewed the plans, collected printed information and even completed the questionaire.
Here are a few points of interest:
  • "The proposal will provide approximately 40 full and part-time jobs aimed at local people."
  • "Aldi operates generally between 8am-10pm (Monday-Saturday) and 10am-4pm (Sunday) with no 24-hour operations or late night openings."
  • Aldi's Brigg store "will not compete directly with existing local businesses in Brigg" because it will NOT have an in-store baker, butcher, fishmonger or cafe and will not be selling cigarettes.
  • "Aldi shoppers save around 30 per cent on their shopping without compromising on quality."
  • "The car park will be free of charge and available for anyone wishing to access local shops and services in a wider area."

Brigg Blog's view is that the main issue for North Lincolnshire Council, the highway and planning authority, to consider will be the access/entrance to/from the store on the already heavily used and sometimes congested A18 on Bridge Street.
Aldi literature given out during yesterday's consultation suggests a new mini-roundabout serving its site and also Island Carr Industrial Estate on the other side of the road.
We anticipate a planning application being made within the next few weeks.

Now back to Aldi's consultation. Staff yesterday made available Aldi brochures listing Special Buys on offer in its stores over the forthcoming bank holiday. Goods advertised ranged from a 48-inch smart TV at £299.99p, through a wide range of real ales at £1.25p a bottle, to gourmet minted lamb burgers at £1.99p, plants and compost, baking essentials, organic veg, and gourmet hot dogs at 99p. Among special offers for the week - 1k of red onions for 59p, 500g of Jersey royal potatoes for 59p and 220g of green beans at the same price. Visit www.aldi.co.uk
