BRIGG TRAFFIC UPDATE

As you are driving out of Brigg on the A18 into Scawby Brook, be aware that there's a machine on a pole near the leisure centre that's monitoring your speed.
It will "flash" how fast you are travelling. So keep to the permitted 30mph.
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher made a famous speech about U-turns. The Lady may not have been for turning, but many Brigg drivers are.
Since last reporting on this topic, we've seen many more examples.
The difficulties experienced with getting onto the traffic-laden A18 on Bridge Street mean more and more drivers making U-turns. Or almost U-turns.

  • Exiting the Bridge Street spur near the Yarborough Hunt, they are turning left for a few yards and then sharp right towards Kiln Lane, driving round the bollard and joining the traffic heading towards the Ancholme Way bridge.
  • Exiting the petrol station and Mill Lane, drivers are turning left towards Scawby Brook and then right into the splay entrance to the Island Carr Estate so they can head back over the bridge towards the Atherton Way roundabout.
  • More U-turns are being undertaken on Bigby Street, outside the old Post Office, where lay-bys on either side make this possible.
Do the drivers who have spotted these time-savers deserve congratulating? Or should we be a shade wary on road safety grounds?
We've suggested before that mini-roundabouts might help on Bridge Street. Could someone at the highway authority take a look to see if they would actually help traffic flows?
