BRIGG COMMUNITY AWARD WINNER REVEALED

FROM BRIGG TOWN COUNCIL

At a Brigg Town Council Meeting  it was resolved that the Joseph J. Magrath O.B.E. Award for Public Voluntary Service to the Community of Brigg in 2015 should be awarded to the Brigg and District Committee, Macmillan Cancer Support.
This award is usually made  to an individual, but given the Brigg and District Committee’s efforts to raise money for this worthy cause, the town council felt it was unfair, on this occasion, to choose an individual from the committee for this prestigious award.
In determining their nomination, members were delighted to have the opportunity to acknowledge the  Brigg and District Committee’s dedication and commitment to raising funds to support the work of Macmillan Nurses in the Brigg area. Macmillan Nurses give financial and emotional support to both people with cancer and their families.
Several of the committee members have been working for this cause for over 25 years and have undertaken a variety of tasks; from keeping cakes stalls stocked, to designing posters for fundraising events and maintaining accurate financial records. Their hard work has ensured that substantial amounts of money have been raised every year to support Brigg residents in their hour of need.
In 2015, the Brigg and District Committee of 12 members raised £20,000.00 for this most worthwhile of causes.
Given the longevity of the commitment by this most altruistic group of people, it was, therefore,
unanimously agreed that the Brigg and District Committee, Macmillan Cancer Support is the most worthy recipients of the Joseph J. Magrath O.B.E. Award for Public Voluntary Service for 2015.
Accordingly, they are invited to attend the Town Mayor’s Civic Charity Dinner to be held on Friday 6th May, 2016, at the Mumbai Lounge in Brigg, when the Town Mayor will present the Committee with the Rose Bowl and a Certificate.
