BRIGG PEOPLE TO ATTEND FAMILY HISTORY OPEN DAY

We reckon a good many Brigg people will be attending the first open day  held by North Lincolnshire Council's family history service.
The local authority will be giving the area's residents a unique opportunity to explore the family history services at a Genealogy Open Day at the Civic Centre, off Ashby Road, Scunthorpe, on Saturday 21 November (11am to 3pm).
The event is free to attend and what’s more, if you order a historical certificate on the day for just £10, you get a photocopy of the original entry free.
The council is giving visitors the chance to view selected historical registers.
There will be talks and expert help throughout the day about the facilities you can use to help you with your search – from Scunthorpe Central Library’s family history section, the North Lincolnshire Superintendent Registrar and a local historian.
You can get advice on how to start your search, how to carry on when you’re stuck, and research techniques; learn how to use the parish registers and much more.
Former Brigg Town Mayor Coun Carl Sherwood, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Sport and Leisure at North Lincolnshire Council, said:  “This is the first time we are opening our family history section up so people can find out what is available. We very much welcome visitors to the free event on Saturday 21 November. You can talk to the experts and find out all you need to know to assist you in your family history search.”

The above picture was taken in Brigg town centre during 1904. Perhaps there are people living in the town today who are related to the two people in view.
