FREE HEALTH CHECKS IN BRIGG

Next week (Monday 14 to Sunday 20 September 2015) is blood pressure awareness week and Public Health at North Lincolnshire Council is offering free blood pressure and health checks.
One in three adults in the UK has high blood pressure. Only a third is aware that they have a condition. High blood pressure causes 60 per cent of strokes and 40 per cent of heart attacks.
The blood pressure checks are available to adults over the age of 18 and health checks available to adults between 40 and 74 who are not already being treated for pre-existing medical conditions including heart problems, high blood pressure/cholesterol, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes.
A session is being held as part of an NHS health check at:
Brigg Wellbeing Hub, Horstead Avenue, Thursday 17 September – 10am to 4pm
Blood pressure checks will also be available for adults of any age not having a full NHS health check. The Stroke Association will also be attending to give advice on preventing a stroke, and life after suffering a stroke.
To book an appointment for health checks please call 01724 292170 or ‘drop in’.
Coun Rob Waltham (Brigg & Wolds), Deputy Leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “High blood pressure rarely has any symptoms – that’s why it’s called the silent killer. It is vital that you get your health checked, particularly if you suspect something isn’t quite right. We are offering free health and blood pressure checks to North Lincolnshire residents, so please take advantage of this.
“There are lots of things you can do now to help lower your blood pressure including reducing salt in your diet, increase your daily intake of fruit and vegetables, reduce your alcohol intake, exercise, lose weight, reduce caffeine and stop smoking.
“While we can check your health and tell you if you have high blood pressure, it is down to you to do something about it and change your lifestyle for the better, for good.”
