Ancholme Leisure Centre at Scawby Brook, serving the Brigg district, opens to the public today (Thursday 14 August) after undergoing a major £1m transformation.
Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy will officially open the centre and unveil a plaque to mark the occasion today at 2pm.
Work started in February 2014 to transform the leisure centre and included:
  • New 48 station fitness suite which has doubled in size situated between the sports hall and the existing gym
  • Complete refurbishment of existing changing and toilet facilities for sports hall and fitness suite users
  • Brand new sauna and steam room.
  • New disabled changing facilities in the health suite with additional changing cubicles. Brand new lockers and furniture
  • Refurbishment of café seating area with new furniture and flooring.
  • New open plan reception with a new enclosed entrance
  • New self-serve kiosk so customers can book themselves onto activities, without having to queue
  • Landscaped grassed areas with central focal point.
  • New signage on the building with public signage included in braille
The gym was closed on Tuesday (12 August) to make way for the new equipment being installed.
Coun Carl Sherwood (Brigg & Wolds), cabinet member for customer services, sport and leisure at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The improvements to Ancholme Leisure Centre are fantastic and really have to be seen. I’m confident visitors will appreciate the hard work gone in over the last few months to update and transform it. Not least we now have a much larger fitness suite which will be a real benefit and will enable more people to use the gym and keep fit. Ancholme leisure centre is a popular place for people to go and the new facilities will make a big difference to the customer experience. Together with the self-serve kiosk and café area and changing facilities, we have brought the centre completely up-to-date and much easier to use."
