HOW MANY BRIGG FOLK REMEMBER BRIDGE STREET LIKE THIS?

Here's a picture showing Bridge Street, Brigg, in the early 1970s when it still formed part of the main A18 route from Grimsby to Scunthorpe and before the M180 opened.
Many Brigg Blog followers will have spotted Peacock & Binnington's name on the left and will recognise the White Hart pub beyond. But what we are trying to confirm is whether the awning just before the pub belonged to Gwen's Bargain Shop. If you can help with information, please email scoopfisher@aol.com
The picture was taken by Ken Fisher and has just come to light in a group of family pictures, some more of which we plan to share with Blog followers in the future.

Interesting, Nige...
Early 70's seems feasible - the van appears to be a Ford 300E van and the car (upper section showing) is a Ford Anglia 105E - it has the distinctive cut-away rear window,
The little lad appears to riding one of those Raleigh Chopper bikes - launched in circa 1970.
The photo seems to show some sort of traffic jam - For example, no-one is in the Ford Anglia and the car is parked at some strange angle. The guy in the foreground is walking in the road - not the sort of thing to do if the traffic was moving....and the lad is riding his bike in the middle of the road.
The lady is pushing one of those Silver Cross prams - the one we lads use to make go-carts from...wheels and axle were like gold-dust us go-cart makers.
Any idea what that large object is on the right?

......and your dad would have had to stand in the road to take the snap...
The thing on the right looks like a skip-like thing - possibly fallen off a lorry.
Why would your dad take the photo if it was not something interesting. or unusual?

I remember when Brigg was like this before the road layout changed. I worked at the Midland Bank there from 1970-1973 before being transferred to Scunthorpe branch. Great days and seems like yesterday but it's half a century ago! Where has that time gone? Reminds me, I need to buy a gold ring for my wife. That's 50 years too!
