PICTURE AND REPORT BY KEN HARRISON

Spotted just outside the Black Bull in Brigg was the unmistakable military figure and purposeful presence of Tom Merriman - one time mine host of the White Horse. He was waiting for his wife, Kath, to appear from a shopping sortie.
Tom indicated that it was now 13 years since he and Kath retired from the White Horse, in 2001.
They were saddened by the death of Gibby - Adrian Gibbons - and Tom added that Gibby was a true professional and an inspiration to his pupils. Tom's children are still keen on sport - promoted, in no small part, by Gibby.
Asked to smile for the camera, Tom replied in his deep, distinctive voice: "I never smile in photographs!"
