BRIGG TOWN FC HOSTS FINAL OF HISTORIC HETT CUP

BY BOB TAYLOR, BRIGG TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB

The 2013/4 final was played at Brigg on a Tuesday evening and the winning team, Barnetby United, retained the trophy, awarded after the game in the Club House. They remained holders of the Cup (after first winning it last season), by beating Appleby 6-2 in the final in a good sporting game, -Appleby having been invited to take part in the competition for the first time.
The Hett cup is engraved as follows:

The Hett Football Charity Cup.
Brigg and District Nursing Institution.
Presented by F.C.Hett Esq.
Season 1912-13

Great credit goes to Brigg Town Secretary Martin North for organising the teams, the fixtures and securing voluntary Officials to participate. Eight teams took part during the season and a grand total of £791 was raised - mainly by the competing teams themselves. It has been agreed that donations will be awarded to L.I.V.E.S.  Brigg Pop-In Centre and to The Ashby Benevolent Fund for local Sports-persons. A formal presentation evening will be arranged in the near future.

A memory refresher of all the teams who have held the trophy since its first final in 1913 when Brigg Football Club were the winners:-

Brigg.F.C./ Broughton Rangers/ Winterton Rovers/ Winterton Rangers/ Scunthorpe United Reserves/ Barton Town/ Brigg Sugar Factory/ Brigg Amateurs/ Wrawby Athletic/ Brigg Servicemen's Club/ Barnetby United.

Arrangements are being made to hold the competition again next season.
