KIRMINGTON AIRFIELD TALK ENJOYED BY BRIGG AMATEUR SOCIAL HISTORIANS

REPORT BY JOSIE WEBB

It was a packed Brigg Amateur Social Historians (BASH) meeting for local aviation historian Dave Gibson’s illustrated talk on "The Life and Times of Kirmington Airfield (from its inception to present time)". He told the story of the airfield from its early beginnings leading up to World War II and the formation of 166 squadron. They were many old photographs and maps of the airfield and also Kirmington village. He then went onto talk about Humberside Airport which is built on the old airfield site. The evening was rounded off with a raffle and light supper. It was a thoroughly brilliant evening enjoyed by all!
The subject of the next BASH meeting on  April 1 is "The Construction and Opening of Immingham Docks" - an  illustrated talk by Brian Peeps.
