Congratulations to Fiona Reid, who has been chosen to receive the  Joseph J. Magrath O.B.E. Award for Public Voluntary Service to the Community of Brigg - decided by the Town Council.
Councillors acknowledged the citation received about Fiona’s dedication and commitment, in a voluntary capacity, to more than one organisation that serves the community of Brigg - Guiding and Brigg  District Lions.
The Town Mayor and Members of Brigg Town Council were most impressed to receive a nomination for a younger member of the community who has progressed from the role of Young Leader at the age of 15 through various roles and positions of responsibility within the local Guiding movement.
Equally, it is recognised that this has enabled others to enjoy the same positive experience.  The Town Council also has it on good authority that a number of guiding units would have ceased to exist had she not been willing to take on the role of leader, which is entirely commendable.
Members were, therefore, astounded to hear that ‘in her spare time’ and despite the fact that she has a full time job, Fiona also takes an active role in serving the community through the work of the Brigg and District Lions; and that this includes helping other charitable and voluntary groups such as Gateway, Macmillan and the Air Ambulance, as well as assisting with the organisation of various community events and initiatives in Brigg, not least of which is the annual Brigg Christmas Fair.
The Town Council was, therefore, delighted to be given this opportunity to publicly recognise the work that Fiona undertakes for the benefit of others and the Town and it was unanimously agreed that she is a most worthy recipient of the Joseph J. Magrath O.B.E. Award for Public Voluntary Service for 2013.
The presentation will take place at the Town Mayor’s Civic Charity Dinner on Thursday, 20th March 2014, at the Kar Restaurant, Old Courts Road.
