CIVIL WEDDING CERMONIES WILL SOON BE TAKING PLACE IN NEW BRIGG VENUE

The Buttercross function room set out for a meeting.
The lavish upstairs function room at the Buttercross in Brigg is to be licensed for weddings from early 2014, we can reveal.
This will enable couples who do not wish to get married in church to do so before a registrar in our town for the first time.
The nearby Angel Suite - managed by Brigg Town Council - is available for wedding receptions and it is expected that many of those who decide to use the new venue will choose the Angel as the location to welcome their family and friends to a reception after the ceremony.
North Lincolnshire Council owns and operates the Market Place's landmark Buttercross, which is almost 200 years old. On the ground floor is the award-winning Tourist Information Centre.
Civil wedding ceremonies will be available from the New Year, Angel Suite manager Karen Deeley revealed to members of Brigg Town Council during a committee meeting this week.
Karen said: "The people of Brigg will be able to make use of this super service, which we will be able to tie into our wedding package, making it a great option for local clients. The first planned joint wedding is expected to be in May, if all goes to plan.
"Hopefully, through linking Brigg Town Council and North Lincolnshire Council in using both venues concurrently, and providing the local community with a place within the boundary of Brigg to have a Civil Ceremony and follow it on with celebrations, there will be a huge benefit to people of Brigg who, at present, cannot have a civil wedding within the boundary of Brigg as there are no licensed premises for weddings."
The development was warmly welcomed by members of Brigg Town Council.
Coun Mike Campion told his Property and Services Committee colleagues: "Let's hope the Buttercross and Angel Suite work well together."
Town Clerk Jeanette Woollard said it would save people the time and expense involved in visiting Scunthorpe.
(This is where North Lincolnshire Council has a Register Office suite within the Civic Centre - relocated from the former premises in Oswald Road).

Alternatively, call in at the Town Council office - close to the courtyard on the ground floor of the Angel building, off the Market Place.
