BRIGG TOWN 2 EASTWOOD TOWN 1 - EVO-STIK LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH

Brigg Town FC have risen nine places within four days in the Evo-Stik League Division One South.

REPORT OF LAST NIGHT'S HOME GAME BY BOB TAYLOR

The Brigg team was unchanged for the home league fixture against “The Badgers” from old adversaries Eastwood Town except for Elliot Broughton - starting in place of the injured Danny Buttle.  Ollie Fisher was back but on the substitutes’ bench.
Eastwood dominated the opening ten minutes of play, winning a free kick from the kick off, which was headed clear from the Brigg penalty area. Henry Sibenge looked lively in their attack and almost worked his way to goal but over-ran the ball allowing Rob Zand the opportunity to pick it up. Michael Jacklin was penalised for a foul on Tony Law and the free kick was cleared for a corner kick on the right, which Rob Zand got down well to smother on his goal line.
Two throw-ins from the right wing ended with Rob Zand again holding on to the ball when it was played into his area. Brigg slowly gained momentum to get into the game and forced three consecutive corner kicks but the pressure on Eastwood’s goal was relieved when Ryan Paczkowski sliced a shot wide of the upright post.
Another three corner kicks quickly came for Brigg and the last of these resulted in a free kick, played into the penalty area by Paul Ashton on the half way line, but this was headed clear. Elliot Broughton then made a solo run into the penalty area but goalkeeper Lewis King saved his shot low down.
Eastwood responded well with a free kick from Henry Sibenge past the top angle of the goal and then Rob Zand saving a shot from thirty yards out. Eastwood continued to press forward, winning a left wing corner kick in the last minute of the first half, which Brigg defended well for the teams to go into the break on level terms.
The Badgers soon back on the attack in the second half, winning a left wing corner kick, which Brigg defended well. Then the first goal of the game was scored three minutes later. JORDAN THEWLISS took possession of a ball played down the middle of the pitch and controlled it well before slipping past a couple of defenders and finding the corner of the net from fifteen yards out. From a free kick in a central position outside the penalty area, Anthony Bowsley tapped the ball to one side for George Zuerner to fire a shot over the bar and then Ryan Paczkowski forced Lewis King into a good diving save to prevent him adding to the score.
With Brigg beginning to take more control of the game, they added a second goal after sixty-five minutes of play from the penalty spot. Following a left wing attack, Elliot Broughton was brought down by a clumsy tackle and JORDAN THEWLISS found the corner of the net with his spot kick.
The two goal lead lifted confidence in the whole team and Brigg created really good openings to increase this further with, Elliot Broughton, Ryan Paczkowski, Jordan Thewliss and Paul Ashton all missing out or being denied by goalkeeper Lewis King.
There was a feeling that these misses could be costly and Eastwood scored four minutes from the end of normal time when TYRONE BURTON  got on the end of a free kick from the left wing to find the roof of the net.
Brigg held on to secure the three points, which lifted them up to thirteenth in the league table - a rise of nine places within four days.
