TRIBUTE TO BRIGG COMMUNITY CHAMPION JIM ALLCROFT

Brigg Blog is really sad to report the death of Jim Allcroft - one of the town's best-known and most respected residents.
Many of us knew Jim well and there was widespread appreciation of the work he did for the community, especially his campaigning on behalf of senior citizens across North Lincolnshire, whose lives he sought to
improve by pressing for changes from the powers-that be.
In Brigg his work included campaigning for footpath improvements to lessen the likelihood of falls.
He also called for improved public transport, and it's only a few months since he was addressing councillors on that issue during a public forum in the Angel Suite.
Any council official, councillor or health boss who had an issue raised by Jim in their pending tray came to realise that he would not let the matter rest until a satisfactory response was forthcoming.
He was the 2001 winner of the coveted Joseph J. Magrath Award for services to the community.
You can read the reasons why Jim received this high honour by following this link.
Jim's funeral will be held on August 9 at 10.30am. PLEASE NOTE THIS WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE BRIGHTWATER GREEN BURIAL MEADOW, NEAR SAXBY, MARKET RASEN AND NOT IN LAUGHTON, AS PREVIOUS STATED.
Our thanks go to Ken Harrison, of Wrawby, who knew Jim well, for providing these pictures.
