REFLECTIONS ON THE BRIGG TOWN COUNCIL ANNUAL MEETING

Newly installed Brigg Town Mayor Coun John Kitwood concluded the annual meeting of the Town Council by telling the members of the public present that the AGM should not be seen as typical.
He was referring to the run-of-the-mill, procedural business that has to be conducted. For the annual meeting is a time for once-a-year formalities, such as placing councillors on the various committees and assigning them to represent the Town Council on various outside bodies and groups.
One of the largest attendances on the public seats in the Angel Suite witnessed one of the least interesting sessions of the authority's year.
Addressing the public, the Town Mayor stressed that other meetings provided debates, with views being expressed by members on many topics.
All monthly sessions of the Town Council - and meetings of committees like Planning and Environment, Policy and Property & Services - are open to members of the public and are held either in the main Angel Suite room or the downstairs Lounge.
We publicise them in advance on Brigg Blog and try to highlight agenda items that we feel will be of particular interest to the public.
