POWERGRID TO THE PEOPLE

CE Electric UK, the electricity distribution operator for the Northeast, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, is now known as Northern Powergrid.
The change came on November 1 the name change is to "establish a stronger identity for the benefit of all stakeholders, including staff and customers."
There is no change in activities or ownership.
Northern Powergrid’s President and Chief Executive, Phil Jones said: “This will give our business a more appropriate, recognisable and understandable identity. Our existing identities of CE Electric UK, NEDL and YEDL arose historically and create confusion for customers, employees and other stakeholders. The new name clearly describes the part of the country in which we operate and the nature of the services that we provide.”
The timing of this announcement coincides with the 10-year anniversary of the merger between the licensed electricity businesses of Northern Electric and Yorkshire Electricity in September 2001. Throughout this ten-year period the company has operated with a confusing range of brands and the anniversary provides a good opportunity to create greater clarity.
The formal name of the holding company is now Northern Powergrid Holdings Company. The two regulated licensee companies have been renamed Northern Powergrid (Yorkshire) plc and Northern Powergrid (Northeast) Limited.
