A call for more people to adopt children in North Lincolnshire has come from a Brigg councillor.North Lincolnshire Council is backing National Adoption Week, which ends on Saturday, and is asking more people to come forward and find out about adopting children.
Brigg’s Coun Rob Waltham (pictured), Cabinet Member for Adult and Children’s Services at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We need people who can offer a child or sibling group a loving and supportive family life. Adopters are needed from all walks of life from across North Lincolnshire to meet the needs of a wide range of children who are waiting for adoption.”
Brigg folk who are interested can find out more by calling 01652 656005 or visiting one of the information stands at Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre, in Barton, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday Sunday (Nov 5 and 6).
National Adoption Week is organised by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) and aims to raise awareness of adoption and encourage more potential parents to express their interest.
There are an estimated 4,000 children across the UK that need to be adopted every year.
Adoption is a way of providing a permanent home and family for children who are unable to live with their own family.
An adopted child becomes a full member of the adoptive family with the same legal rights as any child born in to that family.
