ROYAL TRIBUTES FROM BRIGG SUGGESTED

Brigg Town Council’s monthly meeting next Monday (June 27) will have a right royal flavour.
Coun Jane Kitching is suggesting a letter of congratulations should be sent to Prince William and Kate Middleton (the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) on their marriage.
Coun Sheila Boughey (pictured) proposes Brigg Town Council should initiate discussions within the community with regard to the organisation of events to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June 2012, and determine how this can best be achieved.
Councillors will consider these proposals while meeting in the Angel Suite, from 7.30pm.
This is a public meeting – open to everyone.
As usual, 15 minutes will be set aside for Public Question Time prior to the formal part of the session, during which any resident can raise Brigg-related issues.
Before the Brigg Town Council meeting, the Planning and Environment Committee will convene at 6.45pm in the Angel Suite. This is also open to interested members of the public.
Councillors will consider an application for Listed Building Consent to carry out alterations to the County Bridge – revealed exclusively on Brigg People last week.

Basically, Cllr Boughey's idea is excellent....although if it's to be an annual event, one can't have a 'Diamond Jublilee' every year...equally, 2012 could have an 'Olympic', or 'Titanic' theme...not certain about 2013, but 2014's 'theme could be 'World War 1'
If it's to be a community event, I suggest that so-called street parties have died a natural death.
Instead, it could be a 'Picnic in the Market Place' - aimed at primary age children with street entertainment, such as a puppet show, a clown, pavement drawing competitions and a children's 'Throw a wet sponge at the Mayor' stall.
Health & Safety rules out the Silver Jubilee (1977) floats on backs of lorries, but I recently ventured into Gainsborough Peoples' web site and saw that they had recently a Riverside Festival - the festival had mini-floats designed on the back of 4-wheeled trolleys that were trundled about area.
One could even (with permission) could have the best decorated 'themed' shopping trolley...and even the best 'themed' group competitions.
If the concept comes into being, the logistics should be as simple as possible...no mass movements of tables and chairs.
