NEW MAYOR FOR BRIGG

Mayor-making will be the order of the day when Brigg Town Council holds its annual meeting on Monday, May 23.
This will take place in the Angel Suite, from 7.30pm, and the meeting will be open to the public.
Following last Thursday’s Brigg Town Council election there will be some newcomers taking their seats as elected representatives.
Councillors’ first task will be to elect a Town Mayor to succeed Coun Ben Nobbs at the end of his 12 months in office.
They will also elect a Deputy Town Mayor for 2011/12 from within their ranks.
It is usual for the Deputy Town Mayor (currently Coun John Kitwood) to step up to become the town’s first citizen at the AGM.
The actual title is Vice-Chairman/Town Mayor-Elect and candidates will be given the opportunity to address the meeting before a vote by show of hands.
The Town Council will also appoint representatives to serve on many organisations, ranging from the Brigg Old People’s Welfare Committee to the Millennium Green Trust.
Councillors will also be appointed to serve on the Town Council committees which now conduct most of the day-to-day business, including commenting on planning applications, overseeing the Angel Suite function facility and managing the allotments.
