BRIGG BANDSTAND GETS FINE PAINT JOB

Brigg Bandstand has been repainted this week. And very nice it looks, too.
Ken Harrison kindly captured these pictures of the work being undertaken by painter Bob Pogson, from Scunthorpe.
When Brigg and District Civic Society was still active, it pressed for, and supported, the Bandstand, as a focal point of the Market Place.
It’s now some time since the society ceased to be active and Brigg Town Council has taken on the role of carer (doubtless in consultation with North Lincolnshire Council, overseer-in-chief of the pedestrianised town centre).
The Bandstand did not meet with everyone’s approval in Brigg when it first appeared – some people expected a much larger structure and pointed out you certainly couldn’t get what’s generally regarded as a normal-sized brass band inside it.
However, the Bandstand has gradually become more and more popular with small ensembles and pop musicians, while also providing a base for a variety of charity collections, promotions, presentations and surveys.
