NEARLY FORGOT...

Christmas officially ended in Brigg on Monday afternoon. While parked up in Springs Parade, near the shops, I spied Barrie Gray's men, with van, taking away small Christmas trees.

By Monday afternoon, they were in the pedestrian area.

For info...1.old chirstmas trees are used at Formby sands..between Liverpool and Southport. (the golf course, Birkdale is in the same area) I think there is a stretch about 12/13 miles of coastal sand-dunes and when the old tree are laid in rows they help to create dunes and stop erosion.

2. Christmas tree were popular in Germany in the c16th.

3. Apples were originally hung from the branches - later replaced by glass baubles.

4. The custom (in Royal circles) of having a decorated Christmas Tree in Britain was initiated by GEORGE III.....later Queen Victoria helped to populise the idea...obviously helped by German Prince Albert.

5. Chistmas Trees were a great source of house fires....candles set fire to the tree and then the house.
